SUMMARY:Pack Outing: Lake Allatoona Cleanup - PACK NOT PARTICIPATING
LOCATION:Lake Allatoona
DTSTART:20040918T083000
DTEND:20040918T140000
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The pack will not be participating due to the weather. You may still participate on your own if you wish.\n\nThe Cleanup is scheduled for this weekend.  If you would like to go and have not yet signed up, please email Scot Atkinson at <a href="mailto:sfatkinson@att.net">sfatkinson@att.net</a>.  We will be meeting between 8:30 and 8:45 to register and receive our assignment.\n\n\n\nWe are being based out of the Allatoona Landing Marina location. To get there: From the corner of Jiles and Old 41 (Main St aka county road 293), travel north through the town of Acworth until you reach Sandtown road (you will pass the Corp. of Engineers waterfront park on your left). Turn right (northward) and proceed on Sandtown road until you reach the railroad tracks. Just across the tracks will be the entrance to Allatoona Landing Marina. Follow the signs once there for where to meet.\n\n\n\nRemember you need to have a parent with you as we will be around water. Wear long sleeves and bring gloves.\n\n\n\nIf for some reason huricane Ivan causes the event to be cancelled I will let everyone know.  If it comes in sooner, there will probably be that much more to cleanup!!\n\n\n\n If you are planning on staying for the cookout from 12-2 you might want to bring a change of clothing.\n\n\n\nAny questions, please Call Scot or Beth at (678) 290-6424 or email.

SUMMARY:Pack Outing: Chickamauga Day Hike - CANCELLED
LOCATION:
DTSTART:20040918T090000
DTEND:20040918T160000
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:This event has been cancelled due to the weather and a low level of participation.\n\n\n\nThis September, Pack 002 is planning a day hike through the Chickamauga National Park. The hike is 5 miles and is scheduled for Saturday, September 18th. The hike itself should take 3 to 3.5 hours max. It is approximately a 75 minute drive to the park from Legacy Park. Scouts should wear their Class B uniforms, bring a packed lunch, snack and water bottle. There is also a multi-media show on the battle at the visitor center that lasts about ½ hour. It is shown every hour on the hour starting at 9 a.m until 4 p.m. The cost for the film is $3.00 for adults and $1.50 for kids 6 to 16.\n\n \n\nThere is also a 7 mile loop through the park that you can drive and stop at various points of interest (documented in the official map and guide available at the park).\n\n \n\nHikers bring a snack and water for the hike only. Directions to the park are below. The hike will start at 9:30 a.m from the visitor center. If some of the family wants to hike and some want to explore the rest of the park, we’ll be back around 12:30 so you may plan to have a picnic lunch together.\n\n\n\nA junior ranger program is also offered and you may have your children participate in that too.\n\n\n\nThe park is also celebrating its anniversary, so there will be some artillery (boom boom!) activities being held.\n\n\n\nThere are various restaurants (chain, etc.), on the drive from exiting I-75 to the park for breakfast or lunch. Chattanooga is not that far up the road if you want to do any additional activities. \n\n\n\nThe day has only one planned group event: the hike starting at 9:30 a.m. All other events are according to what you’d like to do. For example, we’ll probably leave by 7:15, stop at a fast-food breakfast place on the way, arrive before 9 to catch the show on the battle, take the hike, have a picnic lunch, then take the 7 mile tour and see if any of the kids want to do the ranger program, catch a few cannon “shots” and then head home.\n\n \n\nPlease contact Tom Jackson with any additional questions you may have regarding this hike – please e-mail him at <a href=\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"mailto:tjackson@us.ibm.com\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\">tjackson@us.ibm.com</a> or 770-795-8310 with your queries. To sign up for the hike, please e-mail Ken Borgerding at <a href=\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"mailto:kcborgs@worldnet.att.net\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\">kcborgs@worldnet.att.net</a>. \n\n\n\nDirections: I-75 North to exit #350, Highway 2. Left at end of exit, go about 5 to 6 miles to Lafayette Road (K-mart on left, Wendy’s on right; after you’ve passed Walmart). Go about 1.5 miles to park hdqtrs on the right.

DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:This year we have had an overwhelming response with approximately 4 times the amount of kits(80) ordered versus 2 years ago. We had less than 20 boats last summer. If everyone that ordered kits is going to attend, it will make for a wonderful event, but we want to make sure we have enough awards and are properly prepared.\n\n\n\nWe need your help. We need to know how many of you are seriously planning on attending this event. They run 4 at a time and the elimination chart has to be carefully planned. Please send an email to your leader to RSVP for the event. Leaders, please forward this information to Beth Atkinson at beth.atkinson@comcast.net. If you decide not to attend for some reason, and have not worked on your rocket, we would appreciate you returning the kit. The pack has paid $4 for each kit and without the string track they really don't work. The pack will be happy to return them.\n\n \n\nWe will need help with the setup and take down of this event. Setup will start at the amphitheatre at 8 am. It takes a while to get the strings attached, properly tightened, level, etc.\n\n \n\nHere is the help we will need:\n\n\n\nSetup - 3-4 people beginning at 8am\n\n\n\nAwards - We need someone to help Beth make design awards. We will be ordering medals for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall. There are no rank place awards for this event because of the typically lower turnout. This may change if we get as many entries as kits ordered!\n\n\n\nJudges for design awards - 3 people\n\n\n\nRegistration help - 2 people to come a few minutes early and help with registration. Registration will start promptly at 10am.\n\n\n\nRubberband winders - we will need 4 people (one for every track) and we may need to switch off if they get tired. Each rocket gets wound 100 times.\n\n\n\nBreakdown - 2-3 parents to help take down the track and load it back into the truck for transport to storage.\n\n\n\nYour help will be greatly appreciated and make for a fun event for the boys. If you are willing to help, please email Beth or you can call Beth or Scot at (678) 290-6424.

Just bring your $7.00 per boy. There are a lot of boys and they schedule the day, We're not sure what happens if we get so many new entries that we overload our 10:00 slot. In that event, its possible that new registrants will be asked to shoot later in the day or when there are openings in other time slots. When the coordinator was asked about this, he didn’t indicate that it would be a problem.\n\n\n\nThis year's Turkey Shoot/Cub-O-Ree is being sponsored by Troop 350 and the Boy Scouts of Mountain Lake District. Cub Scouts will compete within their own packs for a chance to bag the Big Turkey! We will be awarding one turkey (of the frozen variety) every hour to the best shooter. These cards are mainly here for the Week long Campers however.\n\n\n\n<b>Rules:</b> \n\nIn order to keep a safe, clean and comfortable atmosphere in the habitats, there are a few rules that we please ask you follow during your stay at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. \n\n - No eating or drinking (with the exception of water) inside the habitats. \n\n - All males and females will be housed in separate rooms. \n\n - No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the habitats or around trainees. \n\n - Smoking is only allowed in the designated outdoor areas. \n\n - Each room/bay will be given a lights-out time for bed. However, due to various activities that may be occurring and/or various lights-out times, we ask that you assist us in keeping the noise level of all trainees and chaperones down to a minimum when in the habitats. \n\n - Chaperones are responsible for the behavior of their trainees.\n\n\n\nOur Pack's group will be divided into two teams. DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Dinner will begin at about 6:15pm. Please remember to have your den's setup volunteer bring your three centerpieces. Your den should also be providing a games volunteer and a cleanup volunteer.\n\n\n\nThe Blue & Gold Banquet is a an annual banquet and party held by each Cub Scout Pack. Traditionally, its held in February to coincide with the month of Scouting's birthday. In our Pack, the Blue & Gold replaces the February Pack meeting, and includes a catered meal, door prizes, a dessert contest, and the "crossing-over" ceremony for the Pack's Webelo II scouts. \n\n\n\nThe "Crossing-Over" ceremony recognizes the scouts who are leaving the Pack and possibly moving on to Boy Scouts. They receive their Arrow of Light, which is the highest award possible for a Cub Scout to earn, in a very impressive and solemn ceremony. Our pack has also begun a tradition of a Father/Son dessert contest at the Blue & Gold. Each scout can bring a dessert he and his father have created according to the theme of the Blue & Gold Banquet, and enter it in the contest. The desserts are judged, prizes awarded, and then they're eaten.\n\n\n\nBecause of the entertainment and catered meal, there is small additional cost for participating in the Banquet. Tickets are $10, and one ticket covers an entire family. You do not need to purchase a ticket for each person, just one for you entire family. Tickets can be purchased at the Pack meeting preceeding the Banquet. See your den leader for tickets.

This is a wonderful opportunity for your Scout to earn several beltloops quickly and easily. Bring your checkbook to the Pack Meeting if you'd like to register. \n\n \n\nSeptember 9th 8:30-3pm. Cost is $15 including lunch and 5 beltloops. (You will get them that day!) The event will take place at Cauble Park in Acworth (directions below).\n\n \n\nEach scout will need to choose 5 beltloops and I will have to turn this information in with the registration no later than August 30th, so register and pay at the Pack meeting.\n\n \n\nBeltloops available:\n\nfishing, Astronomy, Language & Culture, Map & Compass, Science, Wildlife Conservation, Flag Football, Marbles, Ultimate frisbee, Vollyeyball\n\n\n\nIf your Scout is a Tiger, their adult partner (almost always a parent) should attend with them. If your Scout is older, either an adult should attend with them, or they should buddy up with another Scout and that Scout's parent should be present. For the older Scouts, its not necessary for every parent to stay, but there need to be enough parents present to help guide the boys through the activities.\n\n\n\nDirections from I-75:\n\n\n\nSouth Bound on I-75: Take exit 278 - Glade Road. Turn right onto Glade Rd. North Bound on I-75: Take exit 278 - Glade Road. Turn left onto Glade Rd. Once you are on Glade Rd. go to the second stop light (Bojangle’s will be on your left), turn right onto Lake Acworth Drive (Hwy 92). Turn left at the caution light (West Lakeshore Drive). Go to the second stop sign and turn right onto Academy Street. Follow Academy Street until you see a sign on your left that reads “Cauble Park”. DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:A WAP (Webelos Activity Pin) is an opportunity for district Webelos to earn one of their activity pins in a structured, high quality setting.\n\n\n\nThis WAP will be held at Lockheed. The cost is $7/scout and $3/adult (for lunch), but they only want a minimum number of adults to attend, as they need no help and don't want a lot of extraneous people. The ideal is a ratio of not more than 1 adult per 4 boys. The day runs from about 9 - 4.\n\n\n\nThe registration for the 10/21 date hasn't been opened up to the public yet, and when it does it will open at 9 am on October 7th. Mr. Meister says the clinics fill up very fast, sometimes as fast as 5 minutes after registration opens. What we need to do to register is provide a list of boys names, rank (WEB I or II), and confirmation that each boy and attending adult is a US citizen. We can provide this on an excel spreadsheet and email it in at 9 am on the date, but not before, as we will be penalized.\n\n\n\nThere will also be an Engineering WAP on 2/17 at Lockheed, and details on this will also follow at a later date.\n\n\n\nAdditional information is [here](documents/2006_4th_Annual_SWAP@_LM_Flyer.pdf).\n\n

DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Come join Boy Scout Troop 510 on November 11th at the Allatoona Aquatics Base. All Webelos in our Pack have been invited to participate in a fun event from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm. This will be a great opportunity for your Webelo to meet Boy Scouts, get an idea of the activities and events that Boy Scouts participate in, and learn about Troop 510 specifically. Keep in mind that when your Webelo crosses over to Boy Scouts, you'll need to select a Troop. This event will be a great opportunity for your Scout to learn about one of his options.\n\n\n\nThe events planned for the day include:\n\n\n\n* Setting up a camp the Boy Scout way\n\n* Setting up a wood yard and wood yard safety\n\n* Building fires and fire safety\n\n* Building an entranceway\n\n* Knot tying\n\n* Possibly a hike and/or orienteering\n\n* Possibly model rocket launches\n\n\n\nWear your class B t-shirt, and you may want to bring an extra pair of shoes. Please keep in mind the weather when dressing; you may want to put on a long sleeve shirt under the class B t-shirt.\n\n\n\nSince this will be taking place on Veteran's Day, there will be a special ceremony at 11:00 am (11/11 at 11:00 am) honoring veterans. Please be sure to arrive by 10:30 so you can participate in the ceremony. If any of the parents or grandparents in the Pack are veterans, we would be honored to have them attend so we can thank them.\n\n\n\nThe Troop is planning on holding a Flag Retirement ceremony while we are there. A Flag Retirement ceremony is a respectful, reverent process for disposing of an American flag that has become torn, tattered, or soiled. Its a very moving ceremony, and one that every Cub Scout should see, if they haven't already. If you have any American flags that require retirement (proper, respectful disposal), please bring them with you to participate.\n\n\n\nHere's a map to the Allatoona Aquatics Base: [http://www.campallatoona.org/maps.html](http://www.campallatoona.org/maps.html)\n\n\n\nOur thanks to Keith Smith of Troop 510 for extending the invitation. Female leaders must be responsible for female participants and male leaders for male participants.\n\n* Patriots Point has 24-hour security.\n\n\n\n**Most frequently asked questions:**\n\n\n\n* *What do we bring with us?* Patriots Point provides a bare mattress on the bunk. You provide for your sleeping and personal hygiene needs beyond that. Patriots Points will not provide sleeping gear.\n\n* *Age requirement for campers:* All campers, including any siblings that wish to camp on board and participate in the camping program, must be at least six years old. There are no complimentary admissions for overnight accommodations.\n\n* *Arrival:* All campers and leaders must be on board NO LATER THAN 9:00 PM. Upon arrival, the Troop/Group Leader should contact the Public Safety Officer, who will be in or near the Security Gatehouse in front of the larger Gift Shop/Ticket Booth building. The Public Safety Officer will contact the Scout Duty Officer via radio to coordinate your boarding the Yorktown.\n\n* *Transportation of Gear:* Due to very restricted parking spaces on the pier as regulated by the State Fire Marshal, troops are required to carry all luggage from the parking area down the 600-foot pier to the Yorktown. Please pack with this in mind.\n\n* *Importance of arriving as a group:* Everyone in a group should plan to arrive at Patriots Point simultaneously. Due to the nature of our Orientation Program, this is a must.\n\n* *Berthing Areas:* All campers are assigned specific berthing quarters and are requested to respect the privacy of other campers by not entering any other berthing quarters. The berthing quarters are heated and air-conditioned. Due to the volume of campers on board, we cannot guarantee a specific berthing area to any group. We will make every effort to assign your group to an area that will adequately accommodate it.\n\n* *Orientation Program:* The Orientation Program will be conducted by the Scout Duty Officer upon arrival on board the Yorktown. The rules of conduct, the importance of the Fire Drill, and other standards of behavior are explained.\n\n* *Regular and Emergency Phone Numbers:* The main Patriots Point number is (843) 884-2727. The Camping Office number is 1-800-248-3508 (M-TH, 8-4:30, FR, 8-12). The Scout Duty Office after-hours number is (843) 881-5937. Emergency or after-hours is (843) 860-2345. This is a cellular phone and is answered 24 hours a day by a Public Safety Officer.\n\n* *Fire Drill:* A Fire Drill is mandated by the State Fire Marshal and is held during the evening of your first night on board. Everyone who camps MUST participate in order to sleep on board with NO EXCEPTIONS.\n\n* *Handicapped Persons:* The State Fire Marshal has ruled that due to impediments to egress, persons who are physically or mentally handicapped cannot be permitted to sleep overnight on the Yorktown. Please call our Camping Office for more details.\n\n* *Camping Conduct and Responsibility of Leaders:* In general, we are very pleased with the conduct of our visiting camping groups. However, we have had a few isolated cases of willful destruction of property and theft. Such behavior will not be tolerated and violators, along with group leaders, will be held fully accountable for unacceptable conduct and resultant damage. Any individuals caught violating these rules will be asked to leave the ship.\n\n* *Payment of Fees:* Fees are due 60 days in advance. Checks should be made payable to Patriots Point. We also accept VISA, MC, & DISC.\n\n* *Refund of Money due to overpayment:* Troops/groups will be assessed a processing fee of $15.00 per person for any camper that has paid in full and does not attend.\n\n* *No carry-on food or drink will be allowed:* A Snack Bar and Vending machines are available.\n\n* *Additional events may be occurring during your stay:* As Patriots Point is a nonprofit, non-appropriated enterprise, it is necessary for us to also cater events on board in order to produce the revenues necessary to sustain the Overnight Camping program. Due to this, it is quite possible that a function, such as a banquet, dinner/dance, cocktails, etc. may take place during your visit. Your group would be asked to stay clear of this area. Please contact the office if this presents a problem.\n\n* *Plan of the Day:* A "Plan of the Day" (POD) can be downloaded from our Web site after 12:00 PM (Noon) on Thursdays prior to your visit. Please note that the mid-week POD? will vary slightly from the weekend POD.\n\n\n\n**Hotel Information:**\n\n\n\nYou can stay at a local hotel at your own expense.
