How to Coordinate the Annual Scouting For Food Program

What this event is:

The Pack delivers the Legacy Park newsletter (the last weekend of April) to raise money for the Pack's operations. We include an insert for families to leave canned goods by their mailbox on the Saturday following the delivery and we as Dens collect the food and donate it to a local food pantry.

The Coordinator's duties are:

  • Choose a local food pantry to donate the food to (Pack Management can help with the selection if necessary).
  • Create the flyer that explains the process to be included in the newsletter (Pack Management has a PDF).
  • Coordinate the 'stuffing' of the newsletter. Generally we request at least one parent from each Den to help stuff the newsletters the Thursday evening before delivery. Each Den is responsible for a portion of the delivery. The deliveries are allocated to each Den according to the number of scouts in that Den.
  • Be available the Saturday following the newsletter delivery to coordinate the collection of the food, and the pick up/or delivery of the donations for the food pantry.
